Description
In Mat and the World Around, Mat the Math Mouse meets a beautiful butterfly. He follows her into the forest without looking carefully around him and soon learns an important lesson: it is easy to get lost when you do not take notice of your surroundings.
Luckily for Mat, he meets a great, wise and ancient Tree Father, who gently helps him find his way out of the forest again.
The story spans 12 chapters. Each chapter can also be treated as a separate story, leading children into a deeper awareness of how the body finds itself in space. Spatial words such as left and right, up and down, underneath and on top, far and near, beside and around, are carefully introduced in a humorous and child-friendly way. Along the way, Mat meets many lovable characters who help bring these spatial relationships to life.
This sensitive and delightful math story helps children move more deeply into their surroundings and prepares the foundational concepts for mathematical thinking through imagination and wonder.
Perfect for parents, teachers and homeschooling families.
